WORKSHOPS > Introduction to Bikjoring
If you’re looking for a new way to exercise your dog(s) and get out in the woods, this is it! Join instructor Truman Obermeyer of Brewery Creek Racing for a weekend workshop on the up and coming sport of bikjoring (1 or 2 dogs pulling you on a mountain bike through the woods). This workshop consists of a Friday night classroom presentation and a Saturday hands-on session with Truman’s dogs and your mountain bike. During the evening classroom presentation, Truman will cover: introduction to nordic dog sports; the care, feeding, training and conditioning of canine athletes from pets to top racers; riding techniques for the successful bikjorer; review of equipment, lines and harness requirements; racing opportunities in the upper midwest. On Saturday morning Truman will supply the dog power and lines to lead a short bikjor through the heart of the Keweenaw. There will be plenty of time on Saturday to meet and interact with all the dogs. Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to start training your own dog(s) for bikjoring. Trust us, they'll love it and so will you!
Directions and information will be emailed to registered participants. You must supply your own mountain bike for the Saturday bikjor session.
